Die beiden Meisterwerke von Ambroise Thomas (1811-1896), Hamlet und Mignon, stellen nur einen Bruchteil seines Opernschaffens dar. Weitgehend vergessen sind seine Werke für die Opéra comique in Paris, zu denen auch La cour de Célimène von 1855 gehört. Die Rolle der Gräfin wurde für die legendäre Koloratursopranistin Marie Miolan-Carvalho geschrieben, die in vier Opern Gounods die Hauptrolle kreierte. In der vorliegenden Aufnahme ist in dieser Rolle Laura Claycomb zu hören, die von bewährten OPERA RARA-Kräften wie Alastair Miles und Joan Rodgers sekundiert wird.
