Conductor and pianist Cameron Burns has a wonderful page on his blog called “A Singer’s Survival Guide.” Please read his insights from the point of view of the conductor (and someone who has worked with great conductors, singers and directors.) He talks about Connecting to the Voice, Connecting to the Music, Connecting to the Audience and Connecting to the Profession. Excellent insight and I couldn’t agree with him more. (Although I do not agree with his thoughts on appoggiaturas – seems very “English” to me, and not so stylistically up-to-date with the current scholarship on period performance practice.) But this small quibble aside, BRILLIANT!
